I am a huge admirer of the Knights Templar and read anything historical about them.  I am also impressed by the courage and strength of military families of soldiers who are serving their country, they have my wholehearted respect.  For a long time I kept thinking what I could write to express my admiration for both.

Finally in the Spring of 2005, while watching a news report on American soldiers on TV, I had an idea about a story incorporating both groups.  My inspiration yielded a short story within 30 minutes of watching that report.  It was very basic and very short but had a lot of feeling.  I tried to get into the mindset of a family whose spouse/father was in the military and how his deployment would affect his family.  The story grew over the following months, it was put on hold for many more months before I finally finished it and filed it with The Library of Congress in 2006. Not because I felt it was so important but more because I wanted a legacy for my child.

I hope there is something in my genetic make up that came down to me from my parents families.  On the maternal side, there were very capable accountants, attorneys and very talented painters and musical composers, all well known.  On the paternal side,  columnists, historians, politicians and writers also well known in their fields.  My failure to develop great musical talents does not diminish my appreciation for great music and the fact that I can sing well.

I have taken  a short detour but bear with me please, I am just trying to clear up why I like to write, it’s in my genes.

So, to continue.  The short story developed greatly from 3 pages to about 17.  I sent it to several publishers and got the usual “don’t call us, we’ll call you” or “we are not currently accepting manuscripts” type of correspondence. The short story was shelved by me for a couple of years and I visited it again recently and further developed and refined the story and encouraged by my family, I published it on Amazon.com for it’s access through Kindle e-books.

The story is about a military family, their young son who loves to read about knights and Knights Templar .  He goes to a Jousting Tournament. His father is deployed and he returns.  I will not reveal any more in case someone who happens to read this post decides to read my little story.

I titled it “Knights Templar to the Rescue”.   Should anyone out there read it, please let me know how you liked it. Here is the link to the Kindle store.  If you do not own a Kindle, amazon offers a FREE APP download so you can read your orders of e-books.  Go to:   Amazon.com/KindleForPC.   There, you can now order and read amazon e-books, go on, it is easy.
